Makiga Block Master – Your Trusted Partner in Affordable and Durable Construction

For over 30 years, Makiga Engineering Services Ltd. has been a leader in providing innovative and cost-effective construction solutions across Africa. Our commitment to quality, durability, and affordability has established us as a trusted brand in the industry.

Our flagship product, the Makiga Block Master, is a manually operated concrete block-making machine designed to offer a reliable, affordable, and eco-friendly solution for producing Makiga Concrete Blocks that are strong, uniform, and cost-efficient for all construction needs.

Product Overview – Description and Specifications

The Makiga Block Master is a manually operated machine that compresses a mixture of quarry dust, cement, and sand, or 1/4″ ballast (locally known as “mchele”), sand, and cement, to produce solid, high-strength Makiga Concrete Blocks. Sand is optional if the quarry dust contains large stone particles. The machine’s efficient design and ease of use make it ideal for both urban and rural construction projects.

Production Capacity:

  • With sufficient demolding wood plates, up to 1,000 blocks per day can be produced.

Curing Period:

  • The recommended curing period for Makiga Concrete Blocks ranges from 14 to 28 days, ensuring the concrete fully sets and achieves maximum strength.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Produces solid, high-strength blocks suitable for load-bearing walls and structural applications.
  • Designed with durable steel construction to withstand harsh conditions.
  • Blocks meet industry standards for construction.
  • The machine’s lifespan is determined by the number of cycles it can perform, ensuring a long-term investment.

2. Cost-Effective Construction

  • Reduces construction costs by producing blocks on-site.
  • With efficient demolding plates, up to 1,000 blocks per day can be produced.
  • Minimal maintenance required, ensuring long-term savings.

3. Eco-Friendly Innovation

  • Uses locally available materials such as quarry dust and 1/4″ ballast (“mchele”), reducing environmental impact.
  • Sand is optional depending on the quality of quarry dust available.
  • Manual operation requires no electricity, promoting sustainability.

4. Portability and Ease of Use

  • Lightweight design for easy transportation to different sites.
  • User-friendly manual operation requires minimal technical skills.
  • Ideal for off-grid locations and remote areas.

5. Precision and Uniformity

  • Produces blocks of consistent size and shape, leading to faster construction and reduced plastering costs.

How to Use the Makiga Block Master

Follow these simple steps for optimal performance:

Step 1: Material Preparation

  • Prepare a mixture of quarry dust and cement (sand is optional if the quarry dust contains large particles).
  • Alternatively, use 1/4″ ballast (mchele), sand, and cement with a recommended ratio of 1:3:5 (cement:sand:ballast).
  • Maintain the correct ratio of cement to quarry dust at 1:5 for strong, durable blocks.

Step 2: Mixing the Ingredients

  • Mix cement and quarry dust (or ballast and sand) to achieve a consistent texture.
  • Ensure the mixture is moist and well-combined.

Step 3: Loading the Mold

  • Fill the mold with the prepared mixture evenly.

Step 4: Compression Process

  • Use the manual lever to apply pressure and compact the mixture into a solid block.

Step 5: Ejection and Curing

  • Carefully remove the block from the machine and place it directly on flat ground, as the molds are already on the demolding wood plates.
  • Cure the blocks for 14 to 28 days, ensuring they are kept moist to achieve maximum strength.

Step 6: Construction

  • Once cured, the Makiga Concrete Blocks are ready for use in various applications.
